How to record an audio file in the browser with Soundcloud and share it

Record your audio file

  • create a free Soundcloud account (if you don't have one)
  • click "Upload" (top right)
  • click "Start new recording"
  • click the "Rec" button
  • click the same button when you're done
  • play your recording
  • click "Upload your recording" (if you're happy with it)

[click "Start over" if you aren't happy with it]

  • when the upload of the recording is done, complete the "Info" fields you're interested in
  • click "Save" (which opens a new window with the audio file)

Share your recording

  • in the window with the audio recording, click the "Share" icon (second on the left below "Write a comment")
  • there are two options for sharing
    • copy the link and send it by email or paste it in a webpage
    • embed the html code in a webpage (and send the page link)
      • click "Embed" (above your recording)
      • copy the code
      • embed (= paste) the code wherever you want it (see example right below)

Tip: You can write a comment about something in the audio file. Write your text in "Write a comment" and press "Enter" when finished. The comment will appear at the point on the waveform where you first started typing.

A suggested activity

Suppose you have a class that is practicing pronunciation. You can ask the students to create their own Soundcloud account, record their audio file and send you the link (URL).

You, the teacher, can then go to Padlet and create a free account. Then explore Padlet and create a new "padlet" where you can add all the files that your students send so that they can listen to their colleagues and even comment on their pronunciation (as explained above). You can identify your students by writing their name in the "Title", for example. (See my Padlet and listen to my "fabulous" voice singing the alphabet song!!!)

A hint to get you started: Double-click the padlet to open a new post.

If you don't want your padlet to be public, in "Privacy" (on the right frame) choose "Hidden Link" and "Can view" (if you don't want students to be able to change or edit what you created.)

Hope this tutorial helps!
